ABSTRACT • Objectives : This study screens children in Lebanese schools for potentially lethal inherited arrhythmias. Materials and Methods : A total of 1412 electrocardiograms were performed in Lebanese schools (2012-2017) for eighth grade students. The electrocardiograms were performed by volunteers, and totally supported by Mount Lebanon Hospital. The interpretation of the electrocardiograms was done by a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist.
Results: One potentially lethal case, highly suspicious for arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, was identified. Conclusion : The prevalence of lethal inherited arrhythmias identified by a single ECG in asymptomatic children in Lebanese schools is low. The one life potentially saved was probably worth the effort.
