Preservation Policy

Journal Medical Libanais (JML) is committed to the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal implements reliable digital preservation strategies to ensure that all published content remains permanently accessible to researchers, healthcare professionals, and the global scientific community, even in the event of technical failure, website migration, or publisher changes. Our preservation practices follow internationally recognized standards for digital archiving and scholarly publishing.

Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

Every article published in Journal Medical Libanais is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), providing a permanent and persistent identifier that enables reliable citation, long-term accessibility, and seamless linking to the published version of record. The DOI remains unchanged even if the article's web address is updated, ensuring permanent discoverability and citation.

Permanent Digital Formats

To ensure long-term preservation and interoperability, all published articles are maintained in standardized digital formats, including:

  • PDF – The official version of record for reading, downloading, printing, and citation.
  • XML (JATS XML where applicable) – Structured machine-readable files that support indexing, metadata harvesting, interoperability, and long-term digital preservation across scholarly databases and repositories.

These formats facilitate compatibility with indexing services, digital libraries, and preservation systems.

Digital Archiving

Journal Medical Libanais securely archives all published content in trusted digital repositories to safeguard against accidental data loss, system failures, or technological obsolescence. Multiple archived copies are maintained to ensure permanent preservation and uninterrupted access to the journal's scholarly content.

Internet Archive

Published journal content is preserved through the Internet Archive (Archive.org) whenever applicable, providing an additional layer of long-term public access and digital preservation. This independent archival service helps ensure continued availability of published articles for future generations of researchers and readers.

Repository Preservation

The journal supports the archiving of published articles in institutional repositories, subject-specific repositories, national libraries, and other recognized scholarly repositories, provided that the archived version accurately cites the published Version of Record and includes the article's DOI.

Data Integrity and Security

Journal Medical Libanais employs secure digital storage systems, routine backups, and preservation measures to protect published content from unauthorized alteration, corruption, or loss. Appropriate technical safeguards are implemented to maintain the authenticity, integrity, and reliability of all archived materials.

Accessibility and Permanence

The journal is committed to ensuring that published research remains permanently accessible. In the event of website maintenance, platform migration, or publisher transition, every reasonable effort will be made to preserve uninterrupted public access to all published articles through trusted archival systems and digital repositories.

Commitment to Long-Term Preservation

Journal Medical Libanais continuously reviews and updates its digital preservation strategy in accordance with international best practices for scholarly publishing. Through the use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), standardized PDF and XML formats, secure digital repositories, routine backups, and preservation through Internet Archive (Archive.org), the journal ensures the long-term availability, integrity, and accessibility of the scientific record for researchers worldwide.
